Tech Note 582 Detail

PS-2000 Xplorer Compatible Sensors

Affected Products:

PS-2000 Xplorer Datalogger

Problem/Symptom:
What sensors are compatible with the PS-2000 Xplorer?

PASCO Solution:

As of firmware revision 1.22, all of the PASPort sensors are compatible with the PS-2000 Xplorer except the following:

  • Any Ocean Optics Spectrometer:
    • PS-2635 Spectrometer System
    • PS-2642 Ocean Optics Red Tide Spectrometer System
  • PASPORT sensors shipped after Nov, 2017 may not include a datasheet on the sensor. If the sensor is not recognized by the xplorer please do the following;
    1. Download a trial version of either SPARKvue or CAPSTONE software, which will update some of the DataStudio files
    2. Launch datastudio and connect a sensor using an interface other than the Xplorer (USB link, Powerlink, GLX, SPARKlink, etc.)
    3. Once the sensor is connected it will receive an updated datasheet
    4. You may not use the sensor with your Xplorer datalogger

The following sensors have limited functionality with the Xplorer:

  • PS-2158 PASPORT Analog Adapter
    (Reports only voltage.)
  • PS-2159 PASPORT Digital Adapter
(Reports only time in gate, time between gates, and pulse count.)
  • PS-2196 Optical ODO (Might Not Work)
  • PS-2230 Advanced Water Quality (Might Not Work)
  • PS-2180 Smart Gate (No Operation)

In addition, sensors drawing more than 50 mA of current may function erratically with the Xplorer unless alkaline batteries with 90% charge or more charge are used with the interface as shown by the battery indicator. Click here for details.
