How do I know if the SPARK is charging the battery?

PASCO Solution:

To help determine if a SPARK is properly charging its battery, :

  1. Access the SPARK charging screen.
    1. Press and hold the buttons at the top corners of the screen.
    2. Tap twice in the middle top 1 cm of the screen.
    3. Release the two buttons. (You may need to try this a couple of times.)
  2. Plug the power charger into the SPARK and check the following:
    1. A fully charged battery should have a voltage reading of about 4.0 V. If the value is less than 4.0 V, then the unit should be charging:
      1. The "Charge" value should be increasing and the light on the upper right hand side of the SPARK should be flashing red.
      2. The TTE (Time-To-Empty) value should be increasing if less than 65535 min.
      3. The TTF (Time-To-Full) should be decreasing.
    2. Remove the charging cable from the SPARK SLS.
      1. The "Current" reading should be negative.
      2. The "Charge" should decrease.
      3. The TTE should decrease.
      4. The TTF should rise read 65535 min.

If the TTE and TTF do not change when the power cord is either placed into the SPARK SLS or removed from the SLS, reset the charge controller:

  1. Open the battery door.
  2. Disconnect and remove the battery.
  3. Press the recessed, reset button on the back of the SPARK.
  4. Reconnect the battery.
  5. Restart the SPARK.
  6. Place the SPARK into the diagnostic mode, and check that the TTF and TTE are functioning properly.

If the values for the TTE and TTF do not change appropriately, or if the battery shows signs of swelling, you will want to replace the SPARK SLS battery.

If the SPARK SLS, is running a version 1.10 or earlier, you may want to consider updating to Firmware 1.30.
