PASCO's Pipe Network

Build it your way and instrument it inexpensively.

Features of PASCO's Pipe Network

  • Instrument your pipe network with pressure and flow sensors
  • Transparent Venturi Tubes and pressure taps
  • Study heat loss in pipes, fittings, and valves
  • Find the relationship between pump head a flow rate

Developed in conjunction with Dr. Dan Budny, Associate Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering

Measure pressure

Measure flow rate

Create pump curves

Measure Flow Rate

Measure the flow rate with a see-through Venturi Tube connected to the General Flow Sensor.

Measure Pressure

Move the pressure sensor around the network to determine the pressure at different positions, rather than having a separate pressure sensor for each position.

Create Pump Curves

Create a plot of pressure versus flow rate for a pump and determine the maximum head and flow rate.

Equipment Used

PASCO Capstone Single User License

(UI-5401)

Install Capstone software on a single computer for classroom demonstrations, or individual activities.

General Flow Sensor with Venturi Tube

(PS-2225)

The General Flow Sensor with Venturi Tube determines fluid velocity by measuring the pressure difference between the two input tubes within a pipe network.

PASPORT Dual Pressure Sensor

(PS-2181)

Capable of reading two absolute pressures, one gauge pressure, or one differential pressure.

Pressure Taps (set of 6)

(ME-2224)

Set of 6 clear PVC taps for water flow visibility when designing and constructing pipe networks. For use with an Absolute Pressure Sensor.
