Conflict Minerals Policy
As a manufacturer and reseller of science equipment, PASCO scientific uses certain minerals in the products we produce. Four of these minerals – Tin(Sn), Gold(Au), Tungsten(W), and Tantalum(Ta) commonly known as 3TG – may originate from mines in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and adjoining countries. These four minerals are deemed ‘Conflict Minerals’ by Section 1502 of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer protection Act passed by Congress in July 2010. The Dodd-Frank Act was enacted to address concerns that the trade of minerals by armed groups is financing conflict in the covered countries and contributing to atrocities against civilians. The supply chain for these minerals is very complex, and PASCO scientific is undertaking reasonable country of origin inquiries accompanied by due diligence (where applicable) in our supply chain to determine the source of the minerals. When requested, PASCO suppliers are expected to be responsible and follow best practices in regard to due diligence. For best practices, reference the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Due Diligence Guidance for responsible Supply Chains of Minerals: http://www.oecd.org/corporate/mne/mining.htm
It is the supplier’s responsibility to determine the source of their 3TG minerals upon request, and report this information to PASCO by way of the latest version of the Conflict Free Sourcing Initiative’s conflict minerals reporting template (CMRT). If PASCO scientific determines that any of the materials or components used in our products contain 3TG from a mine or facility that is non-conflict free, we will request corrective actions from the supplier including encouraging the supplier’s smelter to join the CFSI conflict free smelter program (CFSP) .
If suppliers are unable to identify all sources of the conflict minerals, PASCO Procurement will take reasonable steps to assist the supplier in the effort to determine the source.
