How to read the optical calipers.

 For approximate measurement, use the scale printed on the caliper. The distance between the centers of the tips of the calipers will be given by the reading where the arms of the calipers cross (shown approximately below with the red circle.  For precise measurement,  measure the span of the caliper tips with a ruler.
