Investigating Environmental Radiation

Students use a Geiger counter to measure the radioactivity of a sample of their choosing. They measure the background radiation to determine if their selected sample is radioactive. For some samples, they can use shields to figure out what type of radiation is being measured. Students research their sample to identify the radioactive isotopes, the reason they are present, and other related facts. They report on their findings using a format determined by the teacher.
