Resonance Modes in a Vibrating String - Tuning Fork Version
Students investigate the relationship between tension in the string and the wavelength while keeping the frequency and linear mass density constant. They find the string length that resonates at the frequency of the tuning fork for each tension. They investigate the effect of linear mass density by comparing the frequency of the 2 strings with the same tension and wavelength. They use their data to find the linear mass density of the string.
