FFT display

Create a spectral analysis display that uses a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) to measure the relative signal intensity as a function of frequency.

Note

If monitoring data at high sample rates, you must set the Recording Mode to Fast Monitor Mode Fast Monitor Mode.

  1. Scaling Tools

    • Scale Vertical Axis

Click to automatically scale the vertical axis so that all the data is in view.

    • Auto Sample Rate

Automatically adjust the sample rate and number of bins as the frequency axis scale changes. Capstone activates this tool by default.

    • Normalize Data

Select to change the vertical scale to make 1 the maximum value.

  2. Plot Tools

    • Run Selector

Change the visibility of individual data runs without deleting the data.

    • Coordinates Tool

Click to add a coordinates tool to determine the coordinates of a single data point. Use the delta tool to determine the difference between two data points.

    • Record Trace

Use this tool to record a snapshot of the trace to analyze in a graph display.

    • Annotation Tool

Use the annotation tool to label a data point with a brief note.

  3. Number of Bins

Increase or decrease the number of bins on the display. These tools are only available if the automatic sample rate adjustment tool isn't selected.

  4. Axis Tools

    • Add y-axis

Click to add an additional y-axis to the plot area.

    • Add Plot Area

Display an additional measurement on a separate plot area located below the current plot area.

    • Remove y-axis

Click the axis you want to remove, then click the remove button.

    • Rearrange Axes

Use to rearrange y-axes. Click the tool, then drag a y-axis to a different location.

  5. Display Tools

    • Pin Toolbar

Click to prevent the toolbar from hiding automatically.

    • Display Properties

Click to access the display properties.

    • Show or Hide Tools

Click to show or hide specific tools from the toolbar.

  6. Measurement Selector

Click the measurement to select a different measurement to display. Click the unit to select a different unit for the current measurement.

  7. Axis

    • Click and drag to scale each axis individually.
    • Double-click the maximum or minimum value to set to a specific value.
    • Right-click to access axis properties and lock the scale.
  8. Plot Area
    • Click and drag to move the plot area.
    • Right-click the plot area to access the Plot Area Properties.
    • Right-click the trace to access the Run Properties.
  9. Legend
    • Click a run to apply the trace tools to that run.
    • Right-click a run name to access the Plot Area Properties.
    • Right-click a symbol to change the run color and access the Data Set Properties.
  10. Display Title

Click, then enter a custom title for the display.
