Hour of Code, Coding on Mobile Devices

Computer Science Education Week is here, and the PASCO team is ready to help your students get coding! This week on PASCO Live, we're demonstrating a simple coding activity that students can perform without any prior coding experience. We'll be using an onboard accelerometer sensor and the free SPARKvue app with built-in Blockly coding to create a simple, data-driven program. This is a quick and simple activity that can be completed using a smartphone or tablet with an onboard accelerometer, making it the perfect Hour of Code activity for hybrid and distance learners.... more »

Exploring Life Under a Microscope

When it comes to teaching biology, visual resources can make all the difference. Whether you’re studying mitosis, plant and animal cells, or macro-invertebrates from a local water source, microscopy investigations are the easiest way for students to connect with the cellular world. This week on PASCO Live, we will be performing student-friendly microscopy investigations. We’ll review how to use a microscope, compare plant and animal cells, look at the stages of cell reproduction, and discuss the microcosm of organisms that can be found in almost any backyard, pond or garden!

Sharing Educator Experiences with Distance Learning

The pandemic has dramatically changed the way educators teach, grade and interact with their students. What once were reliable best practices and hands-on activities in the classroom, have become incompatible with hybrid and distance learning models. On this week's PASCO Live, Georgia educator, Shane K., will join Dr. JP Keener to discuss how his district pivoted in response to distance learning. A high school chemistry teacher and educator at the University of West Georgia, Shane thought he'd seen it all during his 28 years of teaching. Now, he's joining us from Fayette County, Georgia, to share his experiences with distance learning.... more »
