Changes for Version 4.0

Everything about SPARKvue 4.0 focuses on getting you and your students up and running faster, and with fewer clicks.

Our software team is constantly listening to user feedback to make SPARKvue even more intuitive, flexible, and user friendly. With that in mind we've made changes that make it easier to connect, calibrate, and configure your sensors all the way through to how you share files once your activity is complete.

To introduce you to the changes for version 4.0 we've created a short video that highlights all the new features and improvements. You can also read about each of these changes in greater detail below.

 

The new Welcome Screen

The most prominent change is the replacement of the old home screen with a new Welcome Screen. With simple options to either start a new activity or open an experiment, it takes just one click to choose the path needed for your activity.

When starting a new activity the options are to graph manually entered data, connect a sensor or sensors and start data collection, or to use the logging feature of our Wireless Sensors to conduct a long term experiment.

In terms of opening an experiment, the options are to open a PASCO created experiment, open an experiment you've previously saved, or to open a blank experiment and begin building one of your own with custom displays, images, video, instructions, assessment and anything else you'd like to add.

 

The Welcome Screen helps get you up and running with the fewest clicks necessary.

Additional changes and improvements

A new Menu has been created for frequently used features
  • In the top corner of the screen access the Shared Sessions feature, preferences such as languages, and the Help and About dialogs.
  • Within an experiment, the Save and Open options have been moved to this Menu.
  • And to return to the Welcome Screen, select the "Start New Experiment" Menu option.
  • Quick Starts are provided for many of the Wireless Sensors so you can easily jump right into the most used applications for the attached sensors.

Jump right into the most common uses of Sensors with Templates and Quick Start Labs

  • Select Sensor Data from the Welcome Screen.
  • Connect a Sensor and choose from common templates or sensor specific Quick Starts
  • Jump right into labs like Newton's 2nd Law using a Smart Cart, Color Sensing with a Wireless Light Sensor, Boyle's Law with a Wireless Pressure Sensor and much more!

Monitor Sensor data without recording using the new Live Data Bar!

  • Display live data values for each sensor measurement on the page.
  • Use the Measurement button in the Live Data Bar to configure, calibrate or edit data properties.
  • The Live Data Bar can also be easily hidden if desired.

Keep the focus on the current measurement by showing only the most recent data run by default!

  • This preference is ON (only show most recent run) by default for experiments created in SPARKvue 4.0.0. It can be turned OFF for a specific graph using the Line Graph Properties.
  • This option can be changed globally in the new Menu, under Preferences.
  • Specific runs can still be shown or hidden using the Run Legend in the graph displays.

Sensor configuration through the new Hardware Setup feature!

  • Configure, Calibrate and edit properties of appropriate sensors by pressing the Hardware Setup button within an experiment.
  • Alternatively, if the measurement is displayed in the Live Data Bar, clicking on the measurement will pop out a window listing any configurations or calibrations that can be applied to that measurement.

Share experiment files directly to cloud services like Google Drive and OneDrive!

  • Natively share to cloud services without the use of Filepicker.
  • For tablets, the file sharing options can be found by pressing the button and selecting the appropriate option
  • For Chromebooks, save the experiment to the Google Drive account associated with the Chromebook and share through Google Drive's methodology.
  • For Mac and Windows, save the file to a cloud service application on the computer.

Enhancements included in SPARKvue Version 3.0.1

  • Improved Graph, Scope, FFT and Bar Graph displays
  • Ability to directly connect Wireless Sensors to compatible Windows devices (See below for details*)
  • New and improved Graph tool behaviors
  • Easier to change display measurements and units
  • New calibration option for wireless CO2 sensor
  • Firmware update for SmartCart fixing a time shift between Acceleration from Position sensor and measured Acceleration-x
  • New, larger readout for the Digits display
  • Resolved several known issues

*Wireless Sensors and Windows 10

To use Wireless Sensors directly with Windows devices (without the PS-3500 USB Bluetooth Adapter) three conditions must be met:

1) A device running Windows 10 Creators Edition 1703 or later (Check or update your Windows version)

2) A device with Bluetooth version 4.0 or higher (Check your Bluetooth Version)

3) SPARKvue 3.0 or later must be installed (or reinstalled) after Windows 10 is up-to-date with Creators edition.
