Affected Products:

SE-9764 High Sensitivity Gamma Spectrometer System, USB

Problem/Symptom:
GDM 10 Gamma Spectrometer Configuration

PASCO Solution:

The directions below apply to WinDAS3.4.2. The settings for previous versions may vary slightly.

  1. Connect the 25-pin port on the back of the SE-9764 High Resolution Gamma Spectrometer (GDM) either directly to a serial port or to a USB port using the included USB-to-RS-232 adapter.
  2. If you decide to use the included USB-to-RS-232 adapter,
    1. Install the Aten USB-to-serial driver.
    2. Connect the USB-to-serial adapter to any USB port on the computer. (Avoid using a USB extension cable.)
  3. If you will use a serial cable, navigate to the Windows Device Manager and configure the COM port with the following settings:
    • baud rate: 19200
    • Data bits: 8
    • Parity: none
    • Stop bits: 1
    • Flow control: none
  4. Turn on the GDM.
  5. Open the latest version of the WinDAS.exe software (3.4.2). (The COM port of the USB-to-serial adapter should be detected.)
  6. Click Settings/System Setup.
  7. Click the Change button.
  8. Enter "windas" as the password.
  9. Match the parameters to your COM port settings.
  10. Restart the software.
  11. Select File/New.
  12. Click the Acquire/Start to begin acquiring a gamma ray spectrum.
