Installing DataStudio on Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 10

NOTE: DataStudio is not officially supported on any Windows OS above XP

These procedures may resolve installation issues on Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 10

DataStudio Software Installation Procedure

  1. Download the final version of DataStudio ( and save it to your hard drive.
  2. Double click on (You will see a window that shows the contents of the unzipped file. Click the Extract All Files button and close the window.)
  3. Right-click on the extracted DataStudio installer, DS198r10.exe, select Run As Administrator, and allow the installation to complete.
  4. Right-click on the DataStudio application icon in the Windows Start Menu and select Run As Administrator.
  5. Enter your DataStudio serial number and license key when prompted.

DataStudio Installation Troubleshooting

  1. If you experience problems connecting to an interface, follow the directions below:

    1. Disconnect any PASPort interfaces that are connected to the computer.
    2. Turn off User Account Control (UAC) and reinstall DataStudio.
    3. Right-click on the DataStudio installer, DS198r10.exe, select Run As Administrator, and allow the installation to complete.
    4. Connect a PASPort interface. (Windows should detect the interface and install the correct driver automatically.)
  2. If you see an VB50.dll missing message during installation or execution of DataStudio,

    1. Install Microsoft Visual Basic Runtime 5.
    2. Reboot your computer.
    3. Reinstall DataStudio.
  3. DataStudio installation does not require any special compatibility modes. Below is the procedure for disabling special compatibility modes:
    1. Right click on the DataStudio icon.
    2. Select Properties/Compatibility.
    3. Uncheck "Run the program in Compatibility mode for:".
  4. Run the Windows help files included with DataStudio requires that the user manually install WinHlp32 from Microsoft. (The directions for obtaining this file appear when attempting to access the Help files.)
  5. Color depth may be automatically reduced to compatibility mode when DataStudio is run on Windows Vista.
  6. Subsequent times that you connect a interface to the computer you can run DataStudio without having to right-click on DataStudio and select Run As Administrator.
  7. Versions of DataStudio prior to did not support 64-bit versions of Windows 7 or Vista.
  8. The French version of DataStudio must be launched from the Start menu the first time it is run to avoid the software crashing.
  9. If the installation freezes, please reboot the computer and repeat step 5 of the installation procedure.
