PASCO Solution:

The directions below apply to Windows XP. Windows Vista/7 users, see Tech Note 583 for special installation instructions.

  1. Log into the computer as an administrator.
  2. Download and install the latest version of DataStudio.
  3. Run DataStudio.
  4. When prompted for a license either enter a valid license key or click Enter DataStudio Lite Key to run DataStudio in the Lite mode.

You should now be able to run the software in a student account provided that the students were given write privileges to Windows temp directory.

If you continue to experience problems.

  1. Check if students were given write privileges to Windows temp directory. (To determine the location of this folder, go to Start/Run... and enter %temp%.) If you are unsure about the student privileges, create a new account as a standard user without any additional restrictions.
  2. Check that DataStudio is not crashing in attempting to find an interface:
    1. Disconnect or turn off any PASCO interfaces that are connected to the computer.
    2. Restart DataStudio and select Enter Data.
    3. Click Setup/Choose Interface... and change to the type of interface that you would like to connect.
  3. Download and install the latest version of QuickTime.
  4. Disable Bluetooth.
    1. Go to Control Panel/Bluetooth Devices/Options.
    2. Uncheck Allow Bluetooth devices to connect to this computer and Alert me when a new Bluetooth device wants to connect.
