SW500/SW750 undetected by DataStudio via CI-6759(A) USB-to-Serial Adapter.

Problem/Symptom:
The ScienceWorkshop 500 or 750 interface is not detected by DataStudio when using the CI-6759(A) USB - to- Serial Adapter.

Configuration

  1. Install the final version of DataStudio
  2. If using the CI-6759A adapter, apply the patch to DataStudio in Tech Note 1085.
  3. Turn on the ScienceWorkshop interface.
  4. Connect the CI-6759A adapter to a USB port and wait for Windows to detect device and install drivers.
  5. Run DataStudio.
  6. Click the Setup button in the DataStudio toolbar.
  7. Click Choose Interface.
  8. Select the type of ScienceWorkshop interface that you have connected to the USB-to-serial adapter.
  9. Click OK.

Troubleshooting Procedure

  • Unplug and replug the CI-6759(A) USB-to-serial adapter from the USB port.
  • If your computer has both USB2 and USB3 ports, connect to a USB2 port. Occasionally USB3 ports are not compatible with the CI-6759A adapter.
  • Toggle power on the ScienceWorkshop interface.
  • If you are using a PC and still cannot connect to the interface, delete the PASCO USB/serial interface from the Device Manager.
    1. Right click on My Computer.
    2. Select Properties.
    3. Select the Hardware tab.
    4. Click the Device Manager button.
    5. Expand the Pasco Interface Class category.
    6. Click on PASCO USB/Serial Converter.
    7. Press the Delete button.
    8. A "confirm device uninstall" window will appear. Click "OK". Do not select the checkbox "Delete the driver software for this device"
    9. Disconnect the CI-6759(A) from the USB port and reconnect it. Wait for Windows to recognize the device and install drivers.

Users of the non-universal-binary version of DataStudio for Macintosh, must run DataStudio before connecting the CI-6759(A) USB-to-serial adapter to the serial port.
