DataStudio error "Could not initialize a temporary data file." on Mac

Affected Products:

CI-6870 DataStudio, Single User

I receive the DataStudio error message "Could not initialize a temporary data file" when I collect many runs of data or open a DataStudio file containing many runs of data on my Macintosh computer.

PASCO Solution:

The Mac OS limits the number of temporary files that can be simultaneously open. For each data run of each possible sensor measurement, DataStudio attempts to create a hidden temporary file. If the Mac OS can open no more files, DataStudio gives this error message. Experiments with many data runs using the Rotary Motion Sensor or the Smart Pulley are more prone to this error because these sensors have a large number of possible measurements.

If you encounter this error message, try the following steps:

  • Ensure that your hard disk is not full.
  • Close any unnecessary applications.
  • Limit the number of runs and calculations in your current DataStudio file by deleting any unnecessary data runs, or continue the experiment with a new DataStudio file.

If these suggestions do not resolve the problem, please contact PASCO Technical Support.
