Tech Note 233 Detail

ScienceWorkshop 750/700 SCSI Adapters

Affected Products:

CI-7500 NOT A VALID PART NUMBER
CI-6760 NOT A VALID PART NUMBER

Problem/Symptom:
What USB converters are compatible with the ScienceWorkshop 750 interface?

PASCO Solution:

ScienceWorkshop 750 interfaces (either USB or SCSI) are no longer available for purchase; the 850 Universal Interface - UI-5000 : PASCO is recommended as a replacement or upgrade.

PASCO Capstone

The CI-7500 ScienceWorkshop 750-SCSI interface is compatible with Capstone only when used via a CI-6759(A) USB/Serial Converter.
The ScienceWorkshop 700 interface is not compatible with Capstone.

DataStudio

The ScienceWorkshop 750-SCSI interface (CI-7500) will work with DataStudio (1.9.8.10) on supported operating systems via either the CI-6759(A) USB/Serial Converter or one of the following obsolete Adaptec SCSI cards (models 2906 (PCI), 1505 (ISA) and 7569 (PCMCIA)) and may work with some third-party USB-to-SCSI adapter to connect via USB.

The ScienceWorkhsop 700 interface would work via a supported Adaptec SCSI cards (models 2906 (PCI), 1505 (ISA) and 7569 (PCMCIA)) with an LD25 to HD50 SCSI adapter and may work via a third-party USB-to-SCSI adapter, but few such adapters still exist, and we cannot guarantee the compatibility of any particular adapter.

Notes

  • If using SCSI, performance and reliability is improved with shorter SCSI cables.
  • On MacOS, multiple versions of USB-to-x converter extensions in the Extension Manager folder may cause problems. Disable extensions that are not used.
  • Users of PCs, G3s and G4s with PCI slots should use the CI-7568 PCI-SCSI adapter.
