Install error 1904 on installation of Capstone software: .dll file failed to register

UI-5400 PASCO Capstone Site License

Problem/Symptom:
During installation if Capstone software you receive an error mesage: Eror 1904 .dll file failed to register

PASCO Solution:

For Capstone version 1.7 and higher

This error is likely due to outdated video driver files on your computer. You may need administrator access to update these files.

Suggestion 1:

Navigate to Device Manager and then Display Adapter to check the model and brand of video card on the computer. Then go directly to the manufacturer’s web site (ie Intel or ATI)for the latest drivers for that card. Do not use the Update Drivers option from within Device Manager as this will not work.

Suggestion 2:

If Suggestion 1 does not resolve the issue, check that you have “Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable” is installed. You can check this by going to the Control Panel, then Program and Features. Be sure you have the 2015 version of this program installed. If you do not have the 2015 version, you can download it from Microsoft:

If you do have the 2015 version, click on the program and pick to “Repair” the program to be sure that all links to the program are working. If you have to do repairs to the Visual C++ file you may need to uninstall and reinstall Capstone.

For Capstone 1.0 through 1.6

These versions of Capstone are out of date. The latest version of Capstone is a free update that can be downloaded here: Capstone Update

If you must use an older version of Capstone:

Download the latest version of MDAC from Microsoft, install it, then try to install Capstone again.
