EKG Sensor Troubleshooting

Affected Products:

PS-2111 PASPORT EKG Sensor
CI-6539A EKG Sensor

Problem/Symptom:
EKG Sensor Troubleshooting

PASCO Solution:

The EKG sensor is unresponsive or missing features.

  1. If you wish to see and EKG trace, check that you are viewing "voltage", rather than "heart rate" or "heart rate count".
  2. Check that the sampling rate is set at 200 Hz or greater.
  3. Check that the patches have not expired. (The expiration date should be printed on the package of the EKG patches.) Fresh patches may be purchased as CI-6620 EKG Patches.
  4. Clean the skin where the patches will be applied and rub it with dry paper towel to remove natural skin oils that would reduce electrical conductitivity.
  5. Apply adhesive electrode patches to the right wrist, right forearm just below the elbow, and left forearm just below the elbow.
  6. Press the patches firmly onto the skin.
  7. Clip the EKG leads to the electrode patches as illustrated on the EKG sensor:
    1. black: right wrist
    2. green: right forearm
    3. red: left forearm.
  8. Arrange the leads so that they hang loosely without straining the patches.
  9. Rest arms on edge of table with plams facing up and the free ends of the electrodes pointing toward the blue amplifier box. This will minimize the contribution of skeletal muscle signal.
  10. Press the Start button to begin collecting data.
