How do I use the force platform to determine a heart rate? Because of the effect of ballistocardiography (that forces that are exerted on the body and heart by the flow of blood), the normal force exerted by the force platform will change when blood travels through the aortic arch. The heart rate determined from the extrema of the force platform normal force is confirmed using a handgrip heart rate sensor.
