Activities
01) Standardizing Data
In this activity, students will analyze sample data to determine metabolic rates and calculate the micromoles of gas consumed or produced.
02) Cellular Respiration in Animals
In this activity, students will quantify the rate of cellular respiration for a macroinvertebrate or fish and determine the oxygen consumption rate.
03) Plant Photosynthesis and Respiration
In this activity, students will measure carbon dioxide levels in a closed environment to determine rates of photosynthesis and respiration for different plant species.
04) Decomposition
In this lab, students will investigate the rate of decomposition in different soil and substrate samples.
05) Ecological Accounting
In this activity, students will determine how carbon cycling, photosynthesis, and respiration relate on a micro-scale by calculating the number of moles of available nutrients in a finite space.
