Product Summary
The Venturi Apparatus has a channel with varying cross-section to study the relationship between flow speed and pressure of either air or water. The open design (2-D cross section) allows students to see inside and directly measure all needed dimensions.
How It Works
There are four built-in ports to attach pressure sensors to simultaneously measure the pressure at four places along the stream line. Pressure changes caused by both fluid speed and viscosity (drag) can be measured. A Quad Pressure Sensor (PS-2164) can measure all four ports simultaneously so pressures at two different points in the stream line can be measured where the channel width is the same, thus determining the effect of viscosity. Measuring pressures at two different points where the channel width differs shows the effect of different fluid velocities.
To study air, a shop vacuum can be used to blow air through the Venturi Apparatus with a Spirometer (PS-2152) in-line to measure the air velocity.
To study water, a Water Reservoir (ME-8594) supplies the water and a Motion Sensor (PS-2103A) is used to measure the rate of the decrease in water level to calculate the water velocity.
