In this experiment designed for use with PASCO Capstone software, and using classic equipment: a Faraday Ice Pail and Conductive Spheres, students learn to charge objects by direct contact and by induction. The charge is measured using a high impedance electrometer.
Students explore the distribution of charge on different shaped conductive shapes. A sphere with a hole in it is provided to show that no charge resides on the inner surface of the conductor when it is charged.
