The AC/DC Electronics Laboratory dynamically teaches the basics of AC/DC circuits. Students can use this kit with a ScienceWorkshop Computer Interface and Power Amplifier or as a stand-alone unit. The storage tray holds all included components, reducing the chance of losing capacitors, resistors, etc. Two D batteries are required for stand-alone use (not included).
Using the AC/DC Electronics Laboratory with a 500, 700 or 750 ScienceWorkshop Interface allows students to collect/analyze voltage and current data. In addition, the experiments can be powered by the 700 Interface w/Power Amplifier, 750 Interface, or the 750 Interface w/Power Amplifier.

Induction -- Magnet Through a Coil

Experiment 5 - Voltages in Circuits -- Students create circuits with three resistors in various configurations. The circuits are powered by two D batteries, and a multimeter is used to measure the voltage drop across the resistors in each configuration. Students are asked to articulate the patterns they observe for voltage drops in various circuits.
Experiment 12 - RC Circuits -- Features the use of the Signal Generator to drive an RC circuit. A Voltage Sensor is used to measure the voltage across the capacitor as it charges. A voltage-time graph is created in DataStudio. Students are then asked to use this information to calculate the time constant for the circuit.
Experiment 20 - Induction -- Using DataStudio and a Voltage Sensor, students can measure the electromotive force (EMF) created when a magnet is dropped through a coil. By integrating the voltage-time graph, students can also measure the changes in magnetic flux created by the magnet.
