Intended for primary and secondary (K-12) teachers of all science disciplines. Team up with experienced facilitators and fellow educators to develop your SPARKvue skills through an effective mix of hands-on activities, student-ready labs, and group discussions.

Designed for teachers of all science disciplines, the SPARKvue Summer Institute is intended for educators who are looking to engage students in more active learning experiences using a combination of PASCO sensors, hands-on labs, and SPARKvue software. Over three days, participants will gain valuable, hands-on experience with a variety of PASCO sensors and software capabilities, while also discovering relevant student ventures for the year ahead. Through a series of workshops, educators will work with our Professional Development team to develop essential SPARKvue skills such as:

  • Connecting wireless sensors to class devices
  • Collecting and managing sensor measurements
  • Visualizing data using SPARKvue displays
  • Analyzing and interpreting results
  • Saving, sharing, and exporting data

Participants will also learn how to utilize SPARKvue’s more advanced features to:

  • Create custom SPARKlab files with proper sampling rates
  • Automate data collection with remote logging
  • Transform sensor data with the Calculator
  • Introduce coding into science activities using the Blockly coding integration

In addition to developing their software competencies, participating educators will receive complimentary copies of student activities featured throughout the training, as well as a certificate of completion. The training also includes a behind-the-scenes tour of the PASCO facility and a special meet and greet with PASCO Product Managers. Daily lunches, snacks, and transportation to and from the designated hotel and PASCO facility will be provided. The night prior to Day 1 of workshop instruction, enjoy a social ice-breaker dinner at the hotel with fellow educators and PASCO staff! The Capstone Summer Institute is intended for high school and higher education physics educators looking to incorporate more data-based investigations into their upper-secondary or university-level physics courses using PASCO sensors and Capstone software. Over four days, participants will gain valuable, hands-on experience with a variety of PASCO sensors and software features, while also discovering student investigations they can implement in their own labs. Through a series of hands-on activities, educators will work with our Professional Development team to master the basics of PASCO Capstone™, including how to:

  • Connect PASCO sensors and apparatus to a Mac or Windows computer or laptop
  • Collect, display, and manage sensor measurements
  • Select appropriate sampling options for an experiment, including modes and sample rates
  • Analyze experiment data using Capstone’s built-in tools
  • Save, share, and export data collected in PASCO Capstone™

Participants will also learn how to utilize Capstone’s more advanced features such as:

  • Calculator: Create calculated columns or transform data collected from an experiment.
  • Signal Generator: Learn how to use the built-in Signal Generator.
  • Video Syncing: Sync sensor data to a video recording of an experiment.

In addition to developing a deeper understanding of PASCO Capstone™, participating physics educators will also receive complimentary copies of student investigations featured throughout the training, as well as a certificate of completion. Enjoy a social ice-breaker dinner at the hotel with fellow educators and PASCO staff prior to Day 1 of institute instruction. The training also includes a behind-the-scenes tour of the PASCO facility and a special meet and greet with PASCO Product Managers. Travel & Transportation

Transportation During the Summer Institute

PASCO will provide daily transportation between the Home2 Suites hotel and PASCO scientific for all Summer Institute attendees.

Sacramento International Airport

Both the hotel and PASCO scientific are located in Roseville, CA, about 35 minutes away from Sacramento International Airport. Sacramento International Airport serves most air carriers, including Southwest, United, Delta, Spirit, Frontier, Volaris, American Airlines, Air Canada, AeroMexico, and Alaska Airlines. If you are traveling to the hotel from Sacramento International Airport, then we recommend using either Uber or Lyft ride services (~$45).

Meals

Breakfasts are included with your stay at the Home2 Suites by Hilton Hotel. It is also within walking distance from casual eateries like Peet’s Coffee or Noah's NY Bagels. Lunch will be provided by PASCO each day of Summer Institute activities. Enjoy a social ice-breaker dinner at the hotel with fellow educators and PASCO staff prior to Day 1 of institute instruction. Participants are also invited to one group dinner provided by PASCO. As the event nears, we will contact you about dietary restrictions. Take your pick of the many nearby restaurants for your remaining meals. For those of you interested in trying a West Coast classic, In-N-Out Burger is a mere ten minutes away.
