PASCO® Scientific, a leader in 21st century science education, today announced that two of its products — the Wireless Spectrometer + Spectrometry App, and the SPARK Element™ — have been chosen as winners in Tech & Learning magazine’s 33rd annual Awards of Excellence program. The recognition program honors innovative software, hardware, network, app and Web products that break new ground in helping educators improve student learning.
Additionally, the SPARK Element has been named a finalist in the 18th annual Bett Awards. Organized and managed by the British Educational Suppliers Association (BESA), the Bett Awards are a celebration of the inspiring creativity and innovation that can be found throughout technology for education. PASCO’s Wireless Spectrometer and the SPARKvue science learning application were finalists in last year’s Bett Awards program.
“It is highly gratifying to have panels of educator-judges from across the world recognize the insight, hard work and passion that PASCO puts into its STEM-learning solutions,” said Steven Korte, CEO of PASCO. “These awards are especially important to us because they validate the importance of tools that enable inquiry-based learning and expose students to the world of modern science and technology careers.”
With both Bluetooth® and USB connectivity, PASCO’s Wireless Spectrometer is the first wireless spectrometer enabling direct student use on tablets and computers. The Spectrometer + Spectrometry App supports experiments including emission spectrometry, absorbance spectra analysis of colored solutions and plant pigments, Beer’s law determination of unknown concentrations, and kinetics experiments, all integral to the teaching and learning of content in physics, chemistry, and biology.
The PASCO SPARK Element is a rugged, water-resistant, lightweight, and portable device designed specifically for today’s science classrooms. The Android-based handheld is engineered with a multi-touch display and high-def camera, as well as USB, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth connectivity. It comes pre-loaded with SPARKvue®, PASCO’s award-winning science learning application for sensor-based data collection, sharing, visualization, and analysis.
The SPARK Element also includes interactive science lab activities to guide students through the process of inquiry and investigation, and promote critical thinking and group discussion. In addition, the dedicated science learning device features a built-in accelerometer and a sound sensor, and it can connect to over 80 all-digital PASPORT sensors.
