Diversity of Wildlife

The diversity of Costa Rica’s wildlife is incredible. We were able to see a small portion of the abundant wildlife up close in their natural habitat during our daily 6:00 a.m. bird-watching hikes and while cruising down the Sarapiqui River.

Banana Plantation

The number one industry in Costa Rica is tourism, followed by banana exports and coffee. The group visited a local Dole banana plantation for a tour, where we learned how bananas are grown, harvested, cleaned, packed and shipped around the world.

Poas Volcano and Atmospheric Pressure

As we neared the end of our memorable trip, we drove up to the summit of Poas Volcano. Poas is located in the Central Volcanic Mountain Range and is 2,708 meters (8,884 ft) high. It's one of the most spectacular volcanoes in Costa Rica and has the largest geyser in the world. Poas' active crater is almost one mile wide! We used the Barometer Sensor to measure the change in barometric pressure during our drive to the summit and back down to the capital of San Jose.
