Subject-Specific 2010 Summer Institutes
Biology with Probeware
July 28-30
Return to your classroom after this three-day workshop prepared to use probeware in your high school biology lab. Specially designed activities and group discussions, coupled with subject-specific biology labs, give you the confidence to use technology in your classroom this fall!
- Learn to use PASCO’s PASPORT probeware.
- Practice your new skills with PASCO-designed labs from the new Biology through Inquiry and AP-level Advanced Biology manuals.
- Design your own activities, modify your existing labs to incorporate probeware, or customize our curriculum to fit your specific needs.
- Collaborate with other biology teachers from around the country to develop strategies for focusing student learning on the labs’ primary concepts, assessing student understanding, and teaching lab skills.
- No experience using PASCO probeware is necessary.
Chemistry with Probeware
July 14-16
This three-day workshop provides high school chemistry teachers with skills to enhance student learning through probeware-based laboratory investigations.
- Learn how to use PASPORT sensors for chemistry with computers (DataStudio or SPARKvue) or without computers (SPARK Science Learning System or Xplorer GLX).
- Perform labs from PASCO’s new inquiry-based chemistry manuals, Chemistry through Inquiry and AP-level Advanced Chemistry.
- Create new investigations for your students or adapt your existing labs to couple probeware technology with the powerful pedagogical approach of guided inquiry.
- Collaborate with chemistry teaching colleagues to develop strategies for focusing student learning on the labs’ primary concepts, assessing student understanding, and teaching lab skills.
- No experience using PASCO probeware is necessary.
Earth and Environmental Science with Probeware and MyWorld GIS
July 7-9
The focus of this three-day workshop is on developing skills to integrate probeware and GIS technologies in Earth and Environmental Science laboratory investigations at the high school level.
- Learn how to use PASPORT sensors at computers (DataStudio or SPARKvue) or away from computer (SPARK Science Learning system or Xplorer GLX).
- Learn to use MyWorld GIS software.
- Perform guided-inquiry activities from PASCO's new Earth Science through Inquiry and AP-level Advanced Environmental Science manuals which integrate GIS and probeware technologies.
- Create new investigations for your students or adapt your existing labs to take advantage of probeware and GIS.
- Foster teaching skills through collaboration with fellow workshop participants and PASCO facilitators.
- No experience using probeware or GIS technologies is necessary.
K-8 Science with Probeware
August 4-6
“Science Camp for Teachers,” a three-day workshop, provides elementary and middle school science teachers with skills to enhance student learning through probeware-based laboratory investigations.
- No experience using PASCO probeware is necessary. All you need is a sense of science adventure, a willingness to have science fun, and students who would benefit from your summer Science Funshop camp experience!
- Learn to use PASPORT sensors with or without computers.
- Perform labs from PASCO’s new inquiry-based Middle School Science and Elementary Science lab manuals.
- Create new investigations for your students or adapt your existing activities to bring probeware technology and the power of guided inquiry to your classroom.
- Collaborate with other K-8 teachers to develop strategies for focusing student learning on key concepts, assessing student understanding, and teaching lab skills.
- Make a variety of awesome, inexpensive, and FUN demos to take home for your class.
- Recharge your enthusiasm for science teaching!
Physics with Probeware
July 21-23
This three-day workshop is your total-access pass to technology-enhanced physics teaching at the high school level. Whether you are starting fresh with PASCO’s new physics manuals or adding technology to your existing curriculum, you will hit the ground running this fall with the confidence to integrate probeware into every aspect of your teaching.
- Enhance your skills with the latest PASCO technology and equipment for hands-on physics.
- Perform labs from PASCO’s new inquiry-based physics manuals, Physics through Inquiry and the AP-level Advanced Physics.
- Collaborate with like-minded colleagues to develop strategies for focusing student learning on the labs’ primary concepts, assessing student understanding, and teaching lab skills.
- Learn, practice, and share best practices for success in your physics classroom.
