Sally Ride Science

Introducing Key Concepts in Life, Earth and Physical Sciences

A new discovery-based approach to Middle School Science

Dr. Sally Ride earned her Ph.D. in physics from Stanford University before joining NASA in 1978.  On June 18, 1983, Sally Ride rocketed into space aboard the space shuttle Challenger. She is the first American woman to fly in space.  In 1989 she joined the faculty at UCSD as a Professor of Physics and Director of the University of California's Space Institute.  In 2001, she founded her own company, Sally Ride Science.  The company creates entertaining science programs and publications for upper elementary and middle school students and their parents and teachers.

Now PASCO and Sally Ride Science have teamed to bring together the best of both worlds . . . the discovery-based, interactive learning environment of SPARKscience with the rich science content produced by the educational team at Sally Ride Science.

The result is a standards-based, 21st century approach to Middle School Science.   A program that focuses on teaching the Big Ideas in science while utilizes modern technology.   The goal is to empower students to discover fundamental concepts for themselves while igniting interest in science based careers.

About the Solutions (Earth, Life & Physical)

Each solution consists of

  • A book set of 6 books
  •  The collection of 30 SPARKlabs
  •  A classroom license of SPARKvue
  •  A SPARK or SPARKlink
  •  All the required sensors

Three different solutions are available:  Key Concepts for Life Science, Earth Science and Physical Science.

They can be used separately or in combination to create a complete middle school science curriculum.  Whether using existing computers (Mac or PC) or requiring a standalone device, each solution can be tailored to meet the needs of your students.

The Key Concepts approach

Each Sally Ride Science Key Concepts book explores one Big Idea in Middle School Science in-depth, engaging students with stunning photography, colorful illustration and lively narrative.

Each Key Concepts book comes with 5 SPARKlabs - interactive lab activities that guide students through investigations to discover for themselves fundamental concepts of science in the world around them - using sensors to collect, view and analyze their own data in real time.

The Changing Climate and Earth's Precious Resources series are standalone modules that explore vital issues surrounding our world.

View Our Changing Climate

This 10-SPARKlab collection and 4-book series (The Poles, The Atmosphere, Ecosystems, The Oceans) provides students an understanding of the global impacts of climate change—epic changes that are happening now to the atmosphere, every continent, every ocean, and every ecosystem around the world.

View Earth's Precious Resources

This 10 SPARKlab collection and 4-book series (Clean Air, Clean Energy, Clean Water, and Living Green) work together to help students understand Earth’s precious resources and the challenges we face in protecting them.
