Changing the X-Axis Measurement (aka X-Y Graphing)
Using DataStudio TIP OF THE MONTH -- April 2003
You may have noticed that when sensor data is plotted in a graph display, the sensor measurement is placed on the y-axis and Time is always placed on the x-axis. This is the default setting. However, you can replace the Time measurement on an existing graph display and plot your sensor data versus any other data on your Data List. This allows you to view and analyze trends in data sets such as Force vs. Acceleration in Newton's 2nd Law experiments, pH vs. Solution Concentration in titrations, or Pressure vs. Inverse Volume in Boyles Law demonstrations.
Step 1:
Click on the replacement measurement in the data list and drag it to the x-axis label on the existing graph.
Note the dashed box around the x-axis indicating where the data will appear.
Step 2:
Upon releasing the mouse the axis label changes, the data is re-plotted accordingly, and an x-y data icon appears on the data list representing this new data set.
Congratulations!
You have learned how to replace the Time measurement on the x-axis with a different measurement.
