In the April, 2008 Issue: "Gaining Momentum!"
Experiment of the Month
In this experiment, students use the Xplorer GLX to determine the value of an unknown mass.

If you would like to send us a lab using PASCO equipment, attach it to: gclarion@rocklin.k12.ca.us

- Steel Post - For strength
- Unique Design - Allows visibility of smaller masses
- Wrap thread in notch to hang without tying
PASCO’s Mass and Hanger Set features precision 5 gram mass hangers with steel posts, and “holed” masses that will not fall off the hanger. All the masses have their values marked, and each hanger can hold up to 300 g.
Includes:
- 4 mass hangers (5 g each) ± 2%
- Aluminum masses: ± 1%
3 x 10 g 3 x 5 g
- Brass masses: ± 1%

Contest
2008 AAPT High School Physics Photo Contest
Co-Sponsored by the Committees on High Schools and Educational Technologies
Photo Contest Details
Deadline: May 15
Encourage your students to enter a photo in the AAPT Photo Contest! The 100 finalist photos will be displayed and judged during the 2008 Summer Meeting at the University of Edmonton, July 19-23, 2008.
- Natural photos are those that involve everyday sitautions that may demonstrate a variety of physics concepts. Any spontaneous events is considered natural.
- Contrived photos are those that are set up to show a particular physics concept or related set of concepts. Contrived Photos represent non-spontaneous events.
The contest is open to high school students in grades 9-12 (or equivalent international grade level). Students must print out, sign, and return the Contest Rules and Entry Agreement, available in PDF and HTML versions, when submitting their entry. Failure to submit this form will invalidate the contest entry.
Entries are limited to 15 per school each year. If possible, please place all entries from the school in one package. All digital information for entries in the same package may be recorded on the same CD and included with the entries.
Photos may be entered in one of two categories described and will be judged on the quality of the photo and the accuracy of the physics in the explanation that accompanies the photograph.
