Experimental Setup for the ScienceWorkshop 500 Interface using DataStudio:
- Connect the 500 Interface to the serial port of the computer and plug the Motion Sensor into digital channels 1 and 2 (yellow in 1; black in 2).
- Plug the Force Sensor into analog channel A.
- Tie one end of a 15 cm long string to the Cart. On the other end, tie a loop.
- Make sure that the track is level. Place the Cart on the track and adjust the Feet until the cart remains motionless.
- Place the base and rod at one end of the track as in the picture below. Attach the Force Sensor to the rod.
- Make sure that the string is level and aligned with the center of the Cart. Place the Cart on the track with the string end facing the Force Sensor. Attach the loop end of the string to the hook of the Force Sensor. Position the rod so that the string aligns with the center of the Cart. Adjust the height of the force sensor so that the string is level.
- Attach the Fan Accessory to the Cart. Attach the loop end of the string to the hook of the Force Sensor.
- Attach the motion sensor to the other end of the track as in the picture below.
- Set the switch on the top of the Motion Sensor to "near" as in the picture below.
- Download the Newton's 2nd DataStudio:
You are now ready to begin collecting data.
