PASCO

  • Remind students that they don’t have to release the car at the same time they click Start due to the automatic start condition. In addition, data collection will stop automatically when the car is 75 cm from the Motion Sensor.

  • Be certain the students zero (tare) the force sensor with no mass hanging from it.

  • The Super Pulley must be adjusted such that the string from the Force Sensor is parallel to the track.

  • Hooked mass sets will also work fine for this experiment.

  • Remind the students not to let the cord of the force sensor drag, as this will reduce the kinetic energy.

  • The mass used in the kinetic energy calculation is for a PAScar used with a PASPORT Force Sensor. If you use a different cart and/or sensor, enter the correct mass in the calculator window.

  • To download the Kinetic Energy DataStudio file with sample data for this experiment, click on a Windows (Zip file) or Macintosh (Stuffit file).
