Experimental Setup for ScienceWorkshop:

  1. Connect the tubing of the Absolute Pressure Sensor to the spigot. Connect a ScienceWorkshop interface to the computer and plug the Absolute Pressure Sensor into Analog Channel "A" of the interface.

  2. Connect the Photogate to Digital Channel "1" of the ScienceWorkshop interface.

  3. Place the rocket over the 32 cm long PVC tube. (See "Making the Rocket and Launcher" and "Making the Handheld Rocket" - optional.)

  4. Thread the Photogate Tape from the rocket through the Photogate bracket.

  5. Fasten the Velcro strip over the Velcro dots.
The following steps are required to "subtract out" the ambient pressure:
  1. Open the "Stomp Rocket (SW)" DataStudio file:
  2. Press the START button in DataStudio.

  3. Allow DataStudio to record several seconds of data.

  4. Press the STOP button in DataStudio

  5. Use the Smart Tool to find the ambient absolute pressure.

  6. In the summary window, double-click the equation "gauge = x -101." Replace the value of 101 with the current value of the ambient absolute pressure.

  7. Press the accept button.
