Making the Launcher and Rocket:

Making the Spigot

  1. Cut off the large end the plastic spigot (shipped with the Absolute Pressure Sensor).


  2. Drill a hole into the PVC elbow just large enough to fit the severed end of the spigot.

  3. Glue the severed end of the spigot with 5-minute Epoxy

Making the Launcher


  1. Screw the 20 cm long PVC tube to the wood block with the conduit strap as in the picture above.

  2. Insert one end of the PVC tube through the opening of the 2 liter bottle.

  3. Tape the PVC tube to the bottle.

  4. Attach the PVC elbow to the other end of the 20 cm long PVC tube. Do not glue together.

  5. Attach the 32 cm long PVC tube to the other end of the PVC elbow.

  6. Screw the masonite board to the wood block.


  7. Use the double-adhesive tape that comes with the Photogate Tape Set to attach and align the Photogate Tape Bracket as in the picture above.

  8. Place the Velcro dots next to the bracket as in the picture above.


  9. Slide the Photogate Head into the bracket.

Making the Rocket

  1. Loosely roll a sheet of paper lengthwise around a 1/2 inch PVC pipe. Remove the PVC pipe.

  2. Using transparent tape, tape the entire length of the paper tube.

  3. Tape soft packing material or foam to one end of the paper tube.

  4. Download the pattern for the rocket fins (PDF file, 28 KB).

  5. Follow the instructions on the pattern to create the fins.

  6. Form the fins and tape it to the rocket as in the picture above.

  7. Tape 50 cm of photogate tape to the bottom end of the rocket. Make sure the photogate tape is attached parallel to the rocket's body.
