  • It is very important to use a spring with a very minimal loading force. Hang the spring vertically, if it stretches due to its own weight then the spring is probably a good candidate for this lab.

  • Always test the Egg Stamper before allowing the students to try it. Choose a weight and slinky that will definitely break the egg if the Stamper is not adjusted properly.

  • You may want to add ink to the bottom of the stamping mass if it does not stamp the egg well.

  • The egg carton makes for an excellent egg holder.

  • This lab can be used as the lab practical for the end of an energy unit.

  • If setting up one egg stamper for each lab station is too time consuming, you may want the class to collect data as an entire group; thereby, setting up only one Egg Stamper. Then, each group can make their own calculations and present them independently. The Egg Stamper can be tested at the end of the presentations.
