Beat Frequency with the Xplorer GLX™
In this demonstration, students derive the beat frequency equation.
A beat frequency is produced by two different frequencies—and graphed in real time on the Xplorer GLX.
Simple experiment setup—all you need is the Xplorer GLX and speakers.
Lab Summary
In this demonstration, students derive the beat frequency equation.
Students will see and hear the resulting beat frequency as you demonstrate with different frequencies, and evaluate their derived beat frequency equations against the displayed results.
This demonstration should be done in the high school or college level either just after or in conjunction with the introduction of wave superposition. The advantage of this activity is the economical use of equipment. Instructors need only an Xplorer GLX and powered computer speakers. For classroom demonstration, a computer and projector are also required.
