Experimental Setup:
Please note: Upgrade to the latest Xplorer GLX firmware.

HARDWARE SETUP:
- If necessary, assemble the track.
- Attach a Motion Sensor to each end of the track.
- Connect the Motion Sensors to the Xplorer GLX.
- Make sure the Motion Sensors point parallel to the track.
- Set the switch on the top of the Motion Sensors to "cart" as shown above
- Carefully level the track.
SOFTWARE SETUP:
Note: Download "momentumGLX.zip" (12 KB). DataStudio is necessary to upload this file from your computer to your GLX.
- Press the Home
button.
- Press
to select the Sensors Icon.

- Change the Sample Rate to “50” as in the picture above. Make the Position “Not Visible.” Make the velocity “Visible.”
- Navigate left
or right and repeat the previous step for the other Motion Sensor.
- Press the Home
button.
- Press
to select the Calculator Icon.

- Press
and then the number “1” to turn the “Num Lock” off as in the picture above.

- Using the keyboard like a cell phone key pad enter the text “vel2=-” as in the picture above.

- Then press
and select “Velocity2” as in the picture above.
- Press the Check
Button to enter the expression.
- Press the Home
button.
- Press
to select the Graph Icon.
- Press
then the number “4” to select “Two Measurements.”

- Press the Check
Button then use the arrow buttons to navigate to the “Velocity2” axis label. Select “vel2” as in the picture above.

- Once again, press the
button then use the arrow buttons to navigate to the “Velocity2” axis label. This time select “Data Properties.” Enter “m/s” into the Measurement unit. Then select “OK.” At this point the graph should be aligned properly for both velocity measurements.
- Press the start/stop
Button. Move a cart slowly back and forth along the track. Press the start/stop Button (press F1 to autoscale if necessary). Velocities to the right should be positive. If not, switch the Motion Sensors to the other ends.

- Use the Check and Arrow Buttons to “Delete All Runs…”
