Online Academy for Math and Science

Overview

PASCO's Online Academy is a web-based learning environment focused on providing discovery-based learning and assessment. Powered by Adaptive Curriculum and coordinated to State, NSES and NCTM standards, the more than 300 "Activity Objects" provide interactive lessons in math and Science with rich visualization.

These virtual science labs and real-world simulations are ideal for introducing topics, complementing hands-on activities, and reinforcing difficult concepts.

Because they are web-based, the Activity Objects are perfect for:

Interactive classroom lectures
Small group activities
Individualized study
Homework and remote learning

Details

The life-like virtual environment in most Activity Objects allows students to explore concepts in a way that traditional methods can't. They can simulate weather data to see if a hurricane forms, launch a probe into a black hole, or take a close up look at the nervous system.

With over 300 Activity Objects covering high school and middle school science and math topics, students can develop and test their own hypothesis, experiment in a safe environment and learn by doing. Because they are web-based, students see results in real-time and each activity can be repeated to increase comprehension.

This animation allows students to explore major organs of the nervous system. Assessment is embedded and tests their understanding.

Activity Objects

Activity Objects in Science and Math allow students to participate in virtual experiments, scientific inquiry exercises and problem-based learning that helps them gain the knowledge and skills necessary to excel. Over 130 Activity Objects in 19 Science topic areas and over 90 Activity Objects in 11 Math topic areas are offered.

Activity Objects are supplemental lessons designed to allow students to develop and test their own hypothesis, experiment in a safe environment and learn by doing. All lessons are state and national standards-aligned. Activity Objects are designed for whole class, small group or individual instruction using one-to-one computer, one-to many computer or interactive white board environments.

Components

Activity Object Components

All Activity Objects include the following components:

Realistic visualization: Realistic, engaging visuals and interactive experiments draw and maintain student interest and involvement in math and science.
High Interactivity: Students can try and re-try, develop their own hypothesis, test the validity of their assumptions and view results online. Students actually see the results of their work in real time, without the delay of handing in reports or worksheets.
Activity Sheets: Student and teacher activity sheets are designed as student handouts and/or for formative assessments. Teacher's editions include instructions on how to complete the activities successfully.
Standards-Based Learning Objectives: Aligned to national and state standards.
Assessment Component: Assessments included at the end of each activity and performance data is tracked and reported to the teacher.
Adaptable Content: Add to a class presentation with a projector or interactive whiteboard, or assign to students for individual practice.
Multi-Purpose Usage: Can be applied for engagement, content mastery, skill development, lab experiences, remediation for students needing to have more time on task and as engaging challenges for advanced students.

Educators can plan their lessons by combining the selected Activity Objects with other resources such as documents, URLs, PowerPoint presentations, etc. Educators can take notes while in MyAdaptiveSpace. These notes will remain in their MyAdaptiveSpace for subsequent online sessions.
