Force & Motion
Hands-on curricular module
- » Extensive teacher material
- » Lively engagement exercises
- » Probeware-based discovery
Noodling with Newton Teacher Resource Kit (PS-2801)
Noodling with Newton Investigations Include:
Motion
- How Do We Get There From Here?
Learn concepts such as position and frame of reference
- Hey! Are You Speeding?
Concepts of speed and average speed
- Keep on Truckin'
Learn the relationship between speed, velocity and acceleration
Force
- May the Force Be with You
Newton's First Law
- It Ain't Heavy, It's My Acceleration
Newton's Second Law
- When Push Comes to Shove
Newton's Third Law
Introduce Newton's Laws and help your students learn about the relationship between mass, acceleration, force and motion.
Includes six hands-on investigations that provide approximately 18 days of classroom activities. Your students will use a Motion Sensor to measure their own velocity, a Force Sensor to measure push and pull and investigate concepts in speed, acceleration and more.
Student Learning Objectives
- Recognize push or pull as a force
- Relate an object's motion to the forces exerted on it
- Understand how multiple forces affect the magnitude and direction of the resultant force
- Understand the relationship between force and motion
PASCO Teacher Resource Kits
Each Teacher Resource Kit (TRK) is a collection of standards-based lessons with an inquiry focus designed to guide students and teachers through progressive exploration of key scientific themes. Each TRK is a combination of written and electronic materials organized to make it easy for you to plan, prepare and guide your students through innovative lessons incorporating sensor technology when and where appropriate.
The Teacher Resource Kit includes a wall chart that supports the kinesthetic teaching and learning of force and motion. This Four-Meter Ruler (-2 m to +2 m) is used to introduce the notion that velocity is speed in a particular direction. Laminated for protection, it folds for convenient storing.
Electronic workbooks guide student groups through 6 hands-on activities -- including the discovery of Newton’s Third Law (Equal and Opposite Forces)
Here's what you need:
Noodling with Newton Teacher Resource Kit (PS-2801)
This curricular unit provides a series of six standards-based lessons to build a solid foundation in the concepts of force and motion. Provides lesson planning information, teacher and student background materials, classroom posters, plus Electronic Workbooks which guide students through probeware-based activities.
We recommend one Teacher Resource Kit per classroom.
