Weather Investigations for elementary-level science
Use sensors and student observations to understand local weather and weather changes
The Teaching Challenge
It is easy to observe weather, but it is more difficult to teach the concepts behind what causes weather changes. It is also important to convey standard weather observation techniques.
Students ask questions about the weather and answer for themselves through observation and sensor measurements.
What types of clouds bring rain or snow?
The PASCO Solution
In this SensorScience unit, students will relate cloud and sky observations to weather changes. They will use a "cloud wheel" to help them identify types of clouds, and measure weather conditions such as temperature, humidity, and barometric pressure. Students will then build and use a weather station to investigate and log atmospheric conditions over a multiple days.

How It Works
PASCO's SensorScience line of activities is designed for elementary school students. These activities guide younger students through fun and meaningful investigations about the world around them.
The activities encourage students to ask a question, make a prediction, gather data and construct an explanation. The Teacher section for each activity offers background information and a discussion guide. All activities have been designed to meet national science standards.
