Motion

PASCO's ultrasonic Motion Sensors (PS-2103A) clip directly to Dynamics Tracks and their unique "Narrow Beam" technology provides cleaner data.  Get Bi-directional measurements of position, velocity and acceleration.  Using a Cart Adapter Accessory (ME-6743), the motion sensor can also be mounted directly to a dynamics cart, which is especially helpful for relative motion studies.

Using Sensors

Accelerometer

The PASPORT Visual Accelerometer uses bright LEDs to display both the direction and magnitude of acceleration.  It attaches easily to a dynamics cart and can be used in conjunction with a fan accessory or a force sensor.

Force Sensor

The PASCO Force Sensor (PS-2104) can be used to measure everything from calculating the Hooke's constant of the Spring Cart Launcher (ME-6843) to measuring the impact experienced by a dynamic cart during a collision.

You can use a Force Sensor with the following Dynamics System accessories:  The Discover Collision Bracket (ME-8973), the Bumper Accessory Set (ME-9884) and the Magnetic Bumper Set (ME-9885A)

Rotary Motion

The Rotary Motion Sensor (PS-2120) can provide higher resolution than a Motion Sensor and allows for it to be used as a bi-directional Smart Pulley.  In order to utilize it with the Dynamics Tracks you will need a Dynamics Track Mount (CI-6692)  and the Track String Adapter (ME-6569).

Photogates and interfaces

Photogates provide timing with digital precision.  The standalone option is to use the Accessory Photogate (ME-9204B) with either the Smart Timer (ME-8930) or the Photogate Timer (ME-9215B)

If you have a PASCO interface, the Photogates and Fences set (ME-9471A) will provide a flexible set for use with the Dynamics Systems and more.  Add the Photogate Tape Set (ME-6664) for even more flexibility with photogate measurements.

Timing Options

Tape Timers and stopwatches

The most basic timing system for use with the Classic Dynamics Systems would be the PASCO Stopwatch (ME-1234).  A more traditional timing method would be the tape (or "ticker") timer method using the PASCO Tape Timer (ME-9283).  Its steady rate provides students with many data points with which to create velocity or acceleration graphs.
