Teacher Hints:

  1. This activity requires the student whose respiration rate is being measured to perform mild exercise (i.e., jogging in place) for several minutes. Remind students of appropriate cautions for this kind of exertion.

  2. Even if students are tempted to breathe at an unusual rate or to take extra-deep breaths when wearing the respiration belt, encourage them to breathe as normally as possible.

  3. In the preconfigured DataStudio files, data recording is set at 5 measurements per second (5 Hz). Open the Setup window if you wish to change the sample rate.

  4. Because students will obviously have to work in close physical proximity to each other in setting up the Respiration Belt, remind them of appropriate behavioral standards as needed.
