PASCO and the Center for Improved Engineering & Science Education
PASCO is proud to partner with CIESE (Center for Improved Engineering and Science Education) and to supply probeware for several CIESE programs.
CIESE, the Center for Improved Engineering and Science Education, was established in 1988 at Stevens Institute of Technology. CIESE sponsors and designs interdisciplinary projects that teachers throughout the world can use to enhance their curriculum through compelling use of the Internet, for real time data access and collaborative projects that utilize the Internet's potential to reach peers and experts around the world.
CIESE's core mission is to help teachers and administrators realize the benefits of integrating technology into the curriculum in order to more effectively engage students in learning and improve student achievement, particularly in science and mathematics.
PASCO supports the CIESE environmental science projects and programs with its offering of powerful yet simple-to-use Pure Digital Probeware. See below for CIESE projects and the PASCO probeware that can be used for each. For more information on available projects, visit the CIESE website.
PASCO participates in the following CIESE programs:
See below for more information about the probes used for each program.
Wonderful World of Weather: This standards-based, real-time data module helps students develop a basic understanding of how weather can be described by measurable quantities such as temperature, wind and precipitation. (Recommended for grades K-6)
- Temperature Sensor (PS-2125)
- 6-in-1 Weather Sensor (PS-2154A)
- Light Sensor (PS-2106)
- Xplorer datalogger (PS-2000)
The International Boiling Point Project:
Ever wonder what causes a pot of water to boil? Discover which factor in an experiment (room temperature, elevation, volume of water or heating device) has the greatest influence on boiling point. (Recommended for grades 6-12)
- Temperature Sensor (PS-2125)
- Xplorer datalogger (PS-2000)
The Global Sun/Temperature Project:
Join schools from around the world as they try to figure out how proximity to the equator affects average daily temperature and hours of sunlight. (Recommended for grades 5-8 but all levels may participate.)
- Temperature Sensor (PS-2125)
- 6-in-1 Weather Sensor (PS-2154A)
- Xplorer Datalogger (PS-2000)
Take A Dip:
Students are teaming up around the globe to test fresh water. Compare the water quality of your local river, stream, lake or pond with other fresh water sources around the world. (Recommended for grades 6-8 but all levels are invited to participate.)
- Temperature Sensor (PS-2125)
- pH Sensor (PS-2102)
- Dissolved Oxygen Sensor (PS-2108)
- Turbidity Sensor (PS-2122)
- Conductivity Sensor (PS-2116)
- Xplorer Datalogger (PS-2000)
The Global Water Sampling Project:
Participate in this collaborative project to assess the quality of water based on physical characteristics and chemical substances. Look for relationships and trends among data collected by project participants around the world. (Recommended for grades 9-12)
- Temperature Sensor (PS-2125)
- pH Sensor (PS-2102)
- Dissolved Oxygen Sensor (PS-2108)
- Turbidity Sensor (PS-2122)
- CO2 Gas Sensor (PS-2110)
